THE STRAND STUDY

The Strand Study, conducted by the San Francisco Health Department and UCSF , is seeking HIV negative people over age 18 to support the effort to find a promising new strategy to prevent HIV.

Groundbreaking studies are happening right now to test whether taking a daily drug called tenofovir can protect HIV negative people from infection. Recently, the results of Project T showed that it is safe for HIV negative people to take daily tenofovir. In order to help researchers measure how well people can take the daily drug, the Strand Study will measure levels of tenofovir in the hair of people taking it.

Participants will take tenofovir on three different dosing schedules for six weeks at a time.

Researchers will take small samples of hair and blood to measure tenofovir levels. Participants will receive up to $1300 for participating in the study. Call 415-503-2163 for more information.
